Special Educational Programs

July 7,  7:00-9:00 pm: Theatre Workshop: Acting is Interacting. Jordan Hall. Led by Pamela Chabora, Professor of Theatre Performance at the University of Southern Maine. This participatory workshop explores the concept that "acting is interacting" using Moscow Art Theatre techniques. Followed by a "town hall" group discussion about the possibility of establishing Theatre in the Park. Cost: $5.00.

July 14, 9:00 am-12:00 pm: Painting Glassware Workshop. Jordan Hall. Come and create your own hand-painted glass goblet. Learn basic painting skills to use for future projects. Presented by Kelly Thayer, BA in studio art and owner/artist at Kreations. Cost: $25, max. 12 participants. All materials provided. Sign up in the OPA office by July 12.

July 24, 10:00-11:00 am:  Book presentation by Ocean Parker Marsha Denison at Jakeman Hall. Marsha will present and discuss her published book "Grisha's Loop", an unpublished manuscript written by her father, Gregory Samoylenko, about his life in Russia and his courageous escape to America after the 1917 Revolution. 100 years later, is history repeating itself? Marsha also talks about the value of preserving pictures, diaries, journals and love letters from bygone days. Signed books available. Refreshments. Cost: $5.00.

August 11, 7:00-9:00 pm: Theatre Workshop: Improvisation. Jordan Hall. Led by Pamela Chabora, Professor of Theatre Performance at the University of Southern Maine. This participatory workshop will introduce some basic principles of effective improvisation and its application to stage work focusing on thinking "in the moment" as the character, recognizing impulse, and crucial ensemble work. Followed by a "town hall" group discussion about the possibility of establishing Theatre in the Park.  Cost: $5.00.

August 14, 7:30-9:00 pm:  Art Workshop for all ages. Jordan Hall. Illustrator Jamie Hogan will provide instruction for children of all ages on how to draw images of our beautiful ocean and the creatures we find in and near the ocean. The Carolyn Barstow Fund will be used to welcome this published author. There is no charge for the workshop. Pre-register at the OPA office prior to August 11.

August 21, 7:30-8:30 pm:  An Evening of Story. Jordan Hall. Presented by  Anne Parsons  Marchant and Barbara Mudd. These stories might prompt a laugh, a sigh, a reflection…and are best for those ages 8 and up. Please join us in the spirit of community as we share this ancient tradition. Cost: $5.00.
