Educational Bureau of Ocean Park

The Educational Bureau of Ocean Park is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and improvement of the community through activities providing for spiritual, mental and physical needs. Founded in 1885 and incorporated in 1888, the Bureau provides the Vacation Bible School, craft classes, Theatre Dance Camps and Ecology Adventure Camp for children, and the Beach Olympics Camp. The Bureau owns the Curtis Guest House and the Blake Cottage. The Annual Meeting will be held on June 26 at 10:00 am, and the Adjourned Meeting will be held on August 21 at 10:00 am. Both will take place at the Curtis Guest House. Call President Beth Keene at 207-934-7010 for more information.

Bureau Memberships— Annual $10; Life $50
Men may become Patrons by payment of dues.
Gifts may be made to The Educational Bureau Permanent Fund in memory of a former member and friend.

The Ocean Park Educational Bureau offers several programs for children and youth during the summer and are held at various locations:
June 26-30 - 9:00-11:00 am:  Vacation Bible School: "Fun Factory"------- Jordan Hall.   Registration at 8:45 for five sessions, Monday-Friday. Teachers: Wendy Warnecke and Victoria Libby.  Cost: $5.00 per child.

June 29 - 7:00 pm:  Design-a-Shirt Class: Patriotic Theme---- The Curtis Guest House.
August 3 - 7:00 pm: Design-a-Shirt Class: Illumination Night Theme--- The Curtis Guest House.
T-shirts available to decorate or bring your own washed t-shirt or sweatshirt. Cost: $10.  Instructor: Beth Burchill, 207-651-5143. 

July 10-14 - 9:00-9:45 am:  Dance Aerobics (preteens through adults) ---- The Temple
July 31-August 4 - 9:00-9:45 am: Dance Aerobics Repeats------------------ The Temple
Dance Aerobics is a light aerobic exercise class done to music of  Broadway show tunes. Led by Debra Lombard, founder of The Dance Company of Saco & "The Best of Broadway Show". The class meets for five sessions, Monday-Friday. $5/day, $25/week. Contact Sandra Kurkjy at (617) 899-4429.

"Best of Broadway" Theater Dance Camp is for boys and girls from 6-12 years old and will be held every morning this week. Registration begins at 9:15am. Cost: $75/week, includes a t-shirt. A mini-production is scheduled for Friday at 11:30am. Contact Sandra Kurkjy at (617) 899-4429.

July 11 - 5:30-7:00 pm:  Italian Supper and Raffle--------------------- Curtis Guest House. Why cook? Enjoy a delicious Italian dinner in the historic setting of the Curtis Guest House. $10/adults and $5/children under 12, includes assorted antipasto/salads, Italian bread, pasta dishes, beverages & dessert.  No  reservations needed.


July 12 - 7:30 pm: "Best of Broadway 25th Year "Show----------------------- Temple
July 13 - 7:30 pm: "Best of Broadway 25th Year" Show Repeats-------- Temple
Celebrating 25 years under the direction of Debra J. Lombard. Alumni returning from NYC, San Francisco, Chicago and more will be joining our regulars for TWO NIGHTS. Don't miss this lively, entertaining production of Broadway song and dance. Admission is $12/adults and $5/children under 10.

July 17-21 - 9:00 - 11:00 am:  Children's Visual Arts Class--------------------------- Rec Hall. Ages 6-12. Registration is at 8:45. Cost: $75/week or $15/day per child. Crafts will be displayed on Friday at 11:00am.  Instructor: Heather Dubois, 508-450-2970.

July 19 - 9:00 am - 1:00 pm:  63rd Annual Bazaar and Luncheon------ Curtis Guest House. For tables or white elephant donations, contact Nancy Smith, 207-934-5281 (rain date July 20).

July 24-26 - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm: Ecology Adventure Camp (ages 6-12) based at Porter Hall.
This 3-day field trip based camp offers children the opportunity to visit/explore, through games/activities, the ecology of the pine forest, salt marsh and the beach. Cost: $20/day. Register in advance with Beth Keene at keene1512@aol.com. Same day registration at 8:45 at Porter Hall.

July 27 - 10:00 am:  Coffee and Cottage at 8 Sandpiper Road. Drop in for coffee and a delicious brunch at the newly constructed home of Sue and Dan Evans. $5.00 donation.  All Ocean Parkers are invited to visit this lovely new cottage.

August 7-11 - 9:00-11:45 am:  Beach Olympics Camp (ages 6-13) meet at Jordan Hall. Games, relays & races on the beach, emphasis on fun & friendly team competition. Awards ceremony on Friday at conclusion of the games.  Registration in back room of Jordan Hall 8:45am. Cost: $75/week. Group meets daily at Jordan before heading to the beach. (Teens ages 14-18 needing volunteer certification welcome.) Contact Beth Keene at keene1512@aol.com FMI or to volunteer.

August 10 - 5:30-7:00 pm: Downeast Chowdah Suppah & Raffle at Curtis Guest House. Enjoy delicious home made chowders, beans, salads, breads, and desserts with dining on the porch or in the old fashioned dining rooms. $12/adults, $5/children under 12. No reservation needed.

August 16 - 9:00 am-1:00 pm:  Annual Lawn/Craft/Food Sale  ------------------- Curtis Guest House Lawn. Lawn sale, flea market, food and craft sale all in one! For tables or white elephant donations, contact Nancy Smith, 207-934-5281.
