Educational Bureau of Ocean Park

The Educational Bureau of Ocean Park is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and improvement of the community through activities providing for spiritual, mental and physical needs. Founded in 1885 and incorporated in 1888, the Bureau provides the Vacation Bible School, craft classes, the Theatre Dance Camps and Ecology Adventure Camp for children. The Bureau owns the Curtis Guest House and the Blake Cottage.

Bureau Memberships— Annual $10; Life $50
Men may become Patrons by payment of dues.
Gifts may be made to The Educational Bureau Permanent Fund in memory of a former member and friend.

The Annual Meeting will be held on June 27 at 10:00am, and the Adjourned Meeting will be held on August 22 at 10:00am. Both will take place at the Curtis Guest House. Call President Beth Keene at 207-934-7010 for more information.

June 27-July 1: Vacation Bible School: “Cave Quest” ...................... Jordan Hall 9:00-11:00am
Registration at 8:45 for the five sessions, Monday through Friday. Teachers: Wendy Warnecke and Victoria Libby. Cost: $5.00 per child.

June 30: Design-a-Shirt Class: Patriotic Theme ...................... The Curtis
August 4: Design-a-Shirt Class: Illumination Night Theme

August 8-12: Dance Aerobics Repeats ...................... The Temple 9:00 to 9:45am

Dance Aerobics is a light aerobic exercise class done to music of favorite Broadway show tunes. Led by Debra Lombard, founder of The Dance Company of Saco and “The Best of Broadway Show”. The class meets for five sessions, Monday through Friday. $5/day, $25/week. Contact Sandra Kurkjy at (207) 899-5139.

July 12: “Best of Broadway” Show ...................... Temple 7:30pm
Don’t miss this lively, entertaining evening of song and dance filled with music from your favorite Broadway shows. Directed and choreographed by Debra Lombard, the show features very talented local performers of all ages and wonderful costumes. Admission is $12 adults and $5 for children under 10.

9:45-11:00am: “Best of Broadway” Theater is for boys and girls from 6-12 years old and will be held every morning this week. Registration begins at 9:15am. The fee is $75/week, includes a t-shirt. A mini-production is scheduled for Friday at 11:30 am. Contact Sandra Kurkjy at (207) 899-5139.

July 14: Italian Supper and Raffle ...................... Curtis Guest House 5:30-7:00pm: Why cook? Enjoy a delicious Italian dinner in the historic setting of the Curtis Guest House. $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12, includes assorted antipasto/salads, Italian bread, pasta dishes, beverages and dessert. Sponsored by the Educational Bureaul No advance reservations needed.

July 18-22: Children’s Visual Arts Class ...................... Rec Hall 9:00-11:00am: Ages 6-12. Registration is at 8:45, and the fee for the week is $60 per child or $15/day. Crafts will be displayed on Friday at 11:00am. Instructor: Heather Dubois, 508-450-2970.

25 July 20: 62nd Annual Bazaar and Luncheon ......................... Curtis Guest House 9:00am-1:00pm: Sponsored by the Educational Bureau. For tables or white elephant donations, contact Nancy Smith, 207-934-5281.

July 21: Coffee and Cottage ...................... 18 Porter Rd 10:00am: Drop in for coffee and a delicious brunch at the newly remodeled home of Janet Kelsey, 18 Porter Rd., $5.00 donation. All Ocean Parkers are invited to visit this Ocean Park cottage. To benefit children’s programs in Ocean Park.

July 25-27: Ecology Adventure Camp (ages 6-12 )...................... based at Porter Hall 9:00am-12:00pm: This fun and educational camp is run by personnel from the Ferry Beach Ecology School offering children the opportunity to visit/explore, through games and activities, the ecology of the pine forest, the salt marsh and the beach. Fee: $20/day or $60 for the three-day camp. Register in advance with Beth Keene at keene1512@aol.com. Same day registration at 8:45 at Porter Hall.
