2016 Independence Day and Canada Day Festivities

Image: Clown ParadeWednesday, June 29: “So You Want to Be A Clown” Workshop at the Rec Hall 9:00 to 11:00am: Make-up, costume, & funny business! Bring yours or use ours! Pre-registration at OPA office is $5; $7 at the door. Leader: “Bessie,” aka Lauren Gallagher.

Sunday, July 3: 3:00-6:00
30th Annual Family Sand Sculpture Competition on the Beach, Randall/Ancona Aves. Theme: Treasures in the Sea. A flyer with information and rules for the competition will be available at the Ocean Park Office after Memorial Day or at the site on the day of the competition. You must register! Judging begins at 6:15 pm. Winners will be announced at 7:00 pm and will be recognized at the Band Concert on July 4th.

Monday, July 4: 9:00am
Decorated Bicycle Contest .......... Rec Hall

A great event for kids! Pre-register the week of June 27 at the Rec. Hall (2-5 pm) or starting at 8:00 am inside the Rec. Hall on the 4th. Decorate your bike at home and then bring it to the Rec. Hall for the judging. Contest participants may ride in the parade. Prizes will be awarded during the Band Concert following the parade. 9am-4pm

 

9:00-4:00pm: Art Show and Sale by Saco Bay Artists ......................... Library Lawn

9:00-11:00am: July 4th Buttons to support the OPA ...........All along the Parade Route. Hosted by Religious and Cultural Committee.

9:15am: Ocean Park Band meets for tuning and warm-up ................ Porter Hall

9:40am: First Annual Decorate-a-Dog Pack! ....................................... Temple/Porter Hall
Join in an assembly of OP's finest canine friends! Decorate your dog and meet between the Temple and Porter Hall to walk in the parade. Bandanas, balloons and "treasure" bags provided.

Practice for the parade. No director, no music…no problem!

10:00am: Sixty-Sixth Annual Independence Day Parade .............. Bell Tower
Line of march is open to entrants of all ages (costumes encouraged). The parade, led by the color guard and the Ocean Park Band, forms on Temple Ave. beginning at the Bell Tower. The Marshal of the Parade is Frank Gwalthney. Free popsicles are provided for all young parade participants at the Bell Tower after the parade, courtesy of Gordon and Patti Spence, owners of the Ocean Park Soda Fountain.

10:45am: Concert by the Ocean Park Band ................. Bell Tower
Award of Decorated Bicycle prizes; Sand Sculpture Competition winners will also be announced.

7:00am: Square and Line Dancing ............................... in the square outside Jakeman Hall
Featuring caller Ray Hilton. Ray will return Saturday, September 3rd, for an end of season dance.
