Special Spiritual Programs

In addition to bringing you preachers in the Temple every Sunday, a full music program and Morning Watch, the Religious and Cultural Committee is introducing some additional times during the weeks this summer for you to practice spirituality. The Dances of Universal Peace and Prayer Time for Blessing and Healing started last year and continue this year. The Animal Blessing Service, Storytelling for the Spirit and PorchFest are new in 2016—we hope you can attend these new and innovative programs and spiritual services.

Come as you are & join us for half an hour every Wednesday noon in July & August for Prayer Time for Blessing & Healing in Jordan Hall. We will share a liturgy of prayer with time for you to pray silently for healing for yourself or others, or share your prayers with those who are gathered. The Laying on of Hands and Anointing with oil may be received by request. Led by different resident clergy each week. No cost.

Dances of Universal Peace are spiritual practice in motion, embodying sacred phrases from world spiritual traditions. They blend chant, live music, and circle dance as we focus on unity and peace (a taste of our true nature) and project it out into the world. No experience is needed, just a yearning to embody the peace that we seek and a desire to move together in the presence of Spirit. The leader, Dr. Mindy Ruth Novick, Ph.D., facilitates spiritual development through drama and dance. Thursdays July 14 through August 18, 4:30-5:30pm on the library lawn (rain, or noisy day, location is the meeting room of Jakeman Hall). Cost: $5.00.

The Religious & Cultural Committee is pleased to bring All God's Creatures – Animal Blessing Service to the Ocean Park community on July 24, 5:00pm. Humans gather in the morning for Worship in the Temple but cats, dogs, horses, guinea pigs…all of God's creatures, are invited with their owners to gather in the Bell Tower Grove. Rain/shine. Contact Martine Taylor at martinet2874@hotmail for more information. (all animals need to be leashed, caged or contained as appropriate) No Cost.

Two sessions on Storytelling for the Spirit will take place in 2016, both at Jordan Hall. First, on July 25, at 7:00pm, Rev. Donna Dia Colletti-Lowre will uplift your spirit with her soul songs and divine drama. She sings original compositions and tells biblical and spiritual stories with powerful passion and gentle love. Donna Dia has been a pastor, spiritual counselor in hospice, preacher and teacher. The second program will be held on August 22, 7:00pm: Rev. Cindy Maybeck will present "Balm in Gilead" a program of biblical and narrative stories about healing. An inspiring and engaging speaker, Cindy created Spirit Story ministry as a way to bring God's word to life in sacred and secular settings. Cost: $5.00.

AND, you will have two opportunities for "PorchFest"—front porch music! The first is on July 2nd, 7:00pm, on the porch at 30 Massachusetts Ave. Come on over and enjoy a patriotic sing-a-long and favorites sung and played by Nancy Landsman and other neighborhood Ukulele friends ("The OPK Uke-a-Peops") at her home. "Music at the Duplex"! The second session begins at 8:00pm on August 6 - Be sure to stop by 13 Oceana Ave. during your illumination walk and enjoy old favorites sung and played by Jerry Scheinfeldt, Music Director, and his family from his porch. No cost.
