Restore & Renew

Image: Construction at Jakeman Hall

by David Keene April 2015

In 2014, the Restore & Renew Our Village capital campaign allowed for the renovation of the Memorial Library, Recreation Hall and Shuffleboard Courts as well as exterior work done on The Curtis and Blake. This Spring, work is being done on the interior of Jakeman Hall and The Curtis.

Significant improvements are being made to Jakeman Hall to allow for expanded meeting room space, private office and administrative areas, ADA restrooms, display cases for historic artifacts and more efficient space for the archives. The contractor is Carl Goodwin Inc. and work is scheduled to be completed by mid-May so that there will be no disruption at the start of the summer season.

With 18 guest rooms, The Curtis will have upgrades to improve safety and comfort. Much of the work being done is electrical and includes new wiring, lighting, ceiling fans and emergency/exit systems. Last year, The Curtis had a new roof installed and the exterior was completely repainted.

Restore & Renew Our Village launched as a campaign in the summer of 2013 and to date a total of $950,000 has been pledged with 315 giving units. As the campaign continues this coming summer, there is still time to add your name to the list of donors, so you are encouraged to contact the OPA office to complete a pledge card. At the same time, engraved brick pavers for the Library walkway are being sold and those funds will be allocated to the campaign.

Additional improvements are planned after this summer on the first floor of the Ricker cottage as well on the Curtis and Blake. We can all be proud of what has been accomplished and we look forward to raising additional funds to make even more improvements to our village square.

The "Restore and Renew Our Village" campaign is focused on the structures – owned, loved, and used by us all every day…
