THe Ocean Park Association is hosting its 2nd Annual Plein Air Festival. This is an excellent opportunity for outdoor artists who will be in the Kennebunkport to Cape Elizabeth area in mid-July. All interested artists are asked to submit three samples of their work to Frank Costantino (frankmc@fmcostantino.com) in JPEG form and a non-refundable application fee of $35 to Ocean Park Association, PO Box 7296, Ocean Park, Maine 04063, by April 30, 2015.
If an applying artist is accepted, they will be invited to attend a Tuesday evening, July 14 introduction of artists to the public. The artists will have from daybreak on Wednesday, July 15th, until 11 am on Friday, July 17th, to produce paintings of the Ocean Park environs.
The artists will submit their 5 best paintings to be judged by Philip Frey of Ellsworth, Maine, by noontime. Prizes are First Prize ($500), Second Prize ($300), Third Prize ($200), and Honorable Mention.
A wet paint art sale will run from 5 pm until 7 pm in The Temple on Friday, July 17. Ocean Park anticipates attracting about a dozen juried artists to share their perspectives on Ocean Park.
At the wet paint sale all purchases will be made through the Ocean Park Association. Cash, checks made out to The Ocean Park Association, or credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, or Discover) will be accepted for all purchases.
Ocean Park is a summer assembly, a Chautauqua style community, that will be celebrating its 135th year in 2015. It is about ½ mile wide and ½ mile long. It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean (Saco Bay) in the east and a stand of 100+ feet tall hemlock trees, known as Guild Park in the west. Its southern boundary is The Goosefare Brook and home to a Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge. On the north, Tunis Ave marks the end of Ocean Park as it blends in to Old Orchard Beach.
