July 24, 25, 26, 7 - 9 pm. Improv Comedy Classes At Porter Hall. Find your inner funny bone with Tyler Paterson, a graduate of Second City Chicago. He spent 5 years on the road bringing laughter to festivals and campuses across the country and specializes in teaching improv as a means of communication, awareness, and recovery so that people can acquire the healthy skills needed to make the best decisions possible.
There will be different sessions for age groups:
Ages 6-12 at 7-8 PM • Ages 13-18 at 8-9 PM
1st class is Building Characters and the 2nd class is Building Scenes
Final Showcase at Jordan Hall on July 26 at 7 p.m. puts it all together!

July 24, 10:30-11:30 am: Intro to Traveling Sketchbook Workshop taking place tomorrow. This will be an introductory talk about keeping a sketchbook and displaying sketchbooks. The travel sketchbook is a tool for discovery, on the road or at home. Pack a sketchbook and a pen and discover how art can open your eyes and deepen your experience. Artist Mary Byrom will introduce you to this new popular pastime. Jakeman Hall. No cost.
July 25, 9:00 am-12:00 pm: Traveling Sketchbook. Meet at Jakeman Hall. Sketching is a wonderful way to get outside recording the world around you from your own perspective. In this workshop you can create your own memorable image of a scene that strikes you in Ocean Park. The workshop is led by award-winning painter Mary Byrom, a rural and urban sketcher and painter who has taught for over 20 years. She has been featured in the Portsmouth Herald, Artscope Magazine, 2017 Plein Air Magazine, and other publications. All ages welcome, no cost. All materials provided. Maximum 18 participants. Funded by the William & Elsie Hurter Education Fund.
July 26, 9:30 am-12:30 pm: Painting on Glass workshop at Jakeman Hall. Create your own hand-painted glass jar, presented by Kelly Thayer, BA in studio art and owner/artist at Kreations. Learn basic painting skills to use for future projects. Cost: $25, max 12 participants. All materials provided. Sign up in the OPA office by July 24.
August 2, 7:30 pm: Interested in Quilting? Come to Jakeman Hall and learn tips, tricks and general information to get started or to increase your quilting skills. A small group of Ocean Park quilters will display some of their work, give mini-demonstrations and offer encouragement for those who would like to stop in and talk about their quilting experiences.
